Lieutenant General Bernard E. Trainor served in the Marines from 1946 until 1985. He served as a midshipman, infantry platoon leader, detachment commander, staff officer, company commander, joint plans officer, colonel, and brigadier general.
After he was promoted to Lieutenant General, Trainor became Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, Policies and Operations and the Marine Corps Deputy to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
After he retired, Trainor was the Chief Military Correspondent, New York Times. He now works as a military analyst for NBC.
