3. Biography:

Deepak Tripathi worked as a foreign correspondent, senior producer and chief sub-editor for the BBC for 23 years until 2000. During this period, he also worked for World Service Radio News, where he was the editor of the Newsdesk programme. He has reported from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Syria. In the early 1990s, Tripathi served as the BBC Afghanistan correspondent where he was also responsible for setting up the BBC Bureau in Kabul.

His areas of research and interest include South and West Asia, terrorism and U.S. policy, where Tripathi continues to write on these and other topics for the History News Network, CounterPunch, Observer Research Foundation, AlterNet, ZNet and Op-Ed News

He has written several books on his main focus of study “the Afghan conflict during the Cold War and the rise of the Taliban and al-Qa’ida during the early 1990s.”
