Louis Joseph Freeh, J.D., L.L.M., joined the FBI as a Special Agent after finishing law school. He then spent a decade working as an Assistant then Deputy U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he prosecuted high-profile federal criminal cases.

President George H.W. Bush appointed him to be a U.S. District Court Judge. President Bill Clinton then appointed him as the 10th Director of the FBI in September 1993.
